 | NCAA News: The Offseason Begins Wednesday, June 8th, 2011: Wait until next year! That is the battle cry for the fans of all but one NCAA team. While the 2011 champs get to brag to their buddies about the championship, it's time for general managers to rehash last year and figure out ways to improve their teams. It is the offseason in baseball. The diamonds and the stadiums are void of activity, but the front offices are bristling with energy. Good teams want to stay good -- bad teams want to get good -- and all teams want to get better.
So get ready for the ecstasy of a superstar savior's signing, the joy of re-signing a valuable performer, but also the heartbreak of losing a bidding war or saying farewell to that retiring vet. Nothing is happening on the field, but off the field, the offseason is rarely dull.

Sunshine Ranches College won in a walk and swept the series from the Senators 2-0. It was their 1st championship title.
The winning manager praised his own club as well as the opposition, "It wasn't as easy as it looked. We had to play good baseball to beat them. The Senators are a fine team, but we always seemed to come up with the key hit at the right time and to make the the plays on defense when we had to. That's how you win the Round 3."
The Tritons took first place in the Sub League 1 Division 2 and rounded out the year with a 34-12 record. | | 5-Hit Game for López Sunday, May 29th, 2011: Nelson López was a tough out and went 5 for 5 against Sunshine Ranches College in a fine hitting display. But the Tritons still managed to beat the Minneapolis College Brigands 8-7.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody... and some days they fall in." López also added, "And some days you lose, no matter how well you play. 5 hits in a game ought to win it."
Don't know if it is any consolation to him, but he will get his name put in the record books.
N. López doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 9th and hit a two-run double in the 10th.
López is swinging at a .246 pace on the year with no home runs, 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has played in 47 games. | |
